A tax guide is prepared for foreigners living in Turkey

The guidebook is prepared by of Turkish Republic. It looks like for those who want to follow the legal steps all details are pretty well explained. The tax office will be after unaccounted revenues made in the country. All tax offices in the towns now have a foreign desk to help with how to proceed and register the tax income. At these desks of course English is spoken therefore all questions can be answered here. There is also a desk at Fethiye Tax Office where proffessional help can be obtained. As soon as a property is registered for tax, one could put out signs and advertise mostly and freely as desired. The Guidebook can be collected from the same desk. Also it can be printed from the link below:

SMOKE NO MORE
Turkey is a nation of smokers or so it seems. It is estimated that of the population of 71 million some 60 percent of men, 20 percent of women, and 12 percent of schoolchildren smoke. It’s no surprise then to learn that Turkey is the 7th highest market when it comes to sales of cigarettes. It is estimated that 6 trillion cigarettes are sold in Turkey each year.
Turkish health officials say cigarettes represent a serious health concern for the country where some 100,000 people a year suffer from smoking related illnesses or death. They say Turkey must modernize its health standards so they match Europe. Employers also complain that the average worker wastes around 20% of their working day on ‘fag breaks’.
The Turkish Government agrees with these points and is currently taking a bill through parliament to introduce a smoking ban in workplaces, bars, coffee houses, restaurants and anywhere ‘enclosed’. The draft bill even includes a law to stop car drivers carrying one or more other people from smoking in the car, although is probably included to cause debate on the wider issue more than anything else.
But with such a high proportion of the population smoking and the culture of a 'fag with everything' the government bill could face an up hill struggle.
We’ll wait and see how the final law looks but the days of ‘smoking like a Turk in Turkey’ could soon be drawing to a close.

TRAVEL - Fethiye Harbour

It WAS 4pm, the Mediterranean sun was still strong and the crew had laid out a selection of infusions and cakes on the large dining table beneath a canvas awning.

It looked so good I had to postpone my dip, ease myself off the giant bean bags on which I had been reclining with a book and take the full 10 paces to the table.

It had been another lazy day during a week-long cruise on Captain Yusuf’s 36-metre gulet Baba Veli VII, exploring the Lycian coast from Gocek to Kalkan, via Kas and Kekova, with my partner Justin and our daughters Hannah, 13, and Ella, 11.
